Horehound 4" Pot

$5.00

Horehound (Marrubium vulgare) is a perennial herb in the mint family Lamiaceae. It is native to Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia, but has been naturalized in many other regions around the world. The plant grows to be about 1-2 feet tall, with a bushy, upright habit. In summer, horehound produces small, white or pale purple flowers in dense clusters along the upper stems. These blooms have a distinctive two- lipped shape typical of the mint family. The whole plant, especially the leaves and stems, has a strong, slightly bitter aroma and flavor, often described as minty or menthol-like. This distinctive scent comes from the essential oils present in the plant’s tissues. Horehound has a long history of medicinal use, particularly for respiratory issues like coughs and sore throats.
